Measured / controlled parameters
Chlorophyll fluorescence (Ft, Fm, Fm’, Fo, Fo’), PSII quantum yield (Y(II)), electron transport rate (ETR), quenching parameters (NPQ, qP), fluorescence induction and relaxation kinetics, sample temperature, light flux, actinic light intensity.
Measurement / analysis range
Actinic light intensity – 0 to 25 000 µmol photons m⁻² s⁻¹; measuring-light frequency – 10 to 200 000 Hz; pulse duration – 1 µs.
Measurement accuracy / precision
High sensitivity to modulated signals ± 1 % of scale; noise < 0.1 % of signal.
Analysis method / operating principle
Pulse-Amplitude-Modulation (PAM) method – modulated measuring light excites chlorophyll, fluorescence is detected with high selectivity even under strong ambient light.
Analysis / measurement time
Single measurement (SAT pulse) ≈ 1–2 s; fast kinetics with 10 µs resolution; long-term curves up to several hours.

The PAM-2500 Portable Chlorophyll Fluorometer by Heinz Walz GmbH (Germany) continues the legacy of the PAM-2000/2100 series, integrating modern electronics and optical systems for high-precision chlorophyll fluorescence measurements and PSII performance evaluation.

The device utilizes pulse-modulated measuring light (1 µs pulses, 10–200 kHz) and actinic LED sources at 455 nm (blue), 630 nm (red), and 750 nm (far-red). It achieves exceptional signal sensitivity even under full sunlight, while allowing fluorescence analysis from basic to advanced kinetic levels — from Kautsky induction to fast fluorescence decay.

With the PamWin-3 software, users can perform automated measurement sequences via Script Files, manage saturation pulse analysis, and obtain reliable light and induction curves. The instrument supports both desktop and ultra-mobile touchscreen PCs (UMPCs) for convenient field operation.

Compact (23 × 10.5 × 10.5 cm) yet powerful, the PAM-2500 is perfectly suited for plant ecophysiology, stress screening, and fundamental research involving leaves, chloroplast suspensions, algae, and cyanobacteria.
