The ULM-500 Universal Light Meter and Data Logger by Heinz Walz GmbH (Germany) is a compact, high-precision instrument for measuring and recording light intensity and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 400–700 nm).
It features two BNC inputs for connection of PAR or pyranometer sensors (MQS-B, LS-C, US-SQS/L) and an additional connector for the JUNIOR-B Leaf Clip or 2030-B adapter, allowing measurement of both light and leaf temperature.
With its five sensitivity ranges (0.1–99 999 µmol m⁻² s⁻¹) and high dynamic response, the ULM-500 can resolve both low laboratory light levels and fast saturating light pulses from PAM fluorometers. Internal flash memory stores up to 50 000 records, while “sleep mode” enables up to 100 days autonomous logging.
Using WinControl-3 software, users can configure measurement intervals, automatically log data, and export results to spreadsheets. The back-lit LCD display ensures visibility in dark environments. Powered by four AAA batteries or USB (5 V DC), weighing just 210 g, the instrument combines mobility with precision.
The ULM-500 is the ideal solution for photosynthesis research, environmental light monitoring, calibration of illumination systems, and long-term PAR measurements in the field or laboratory.
